The Construction Of The Garden Exit

In contrast to the construction of the bunker, no concrete foundation was made for the protective tower of the garden exit. The exit tower constituted an independent part of the bunker, which was neither connected to the staircase shaft nor to the bunker itself. Therefore the layer of earth between the garden exit and the bunker ceiling served as a buffer between the Tiefbunker and the garden exit tower. If the garden tower were to be impacted by a bomb, the shock wave would be dispersed by the soil and the force of impact on the Tiefbunker itself would be considerably reduced.
